The manufacturer of gas purification equipment introduces the purpose of helium. The manufacturer of gas purification equipment introduces the purpose of helium

Helium is abbreviated as He, with atomic order of 2 and atomic weight of 4.002602. It is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, inert monatomic gas.

The element name comes from Greek and originally means "sun". In 1868, Janssen of France observed the sun's surface with a spectroscope and found a new yellow spectral line. He believed that it was an unknown element on the sun, so it was named Helium. Helium is a colorless and odorless gas under normal conditions, and it is a substance that cannot be solidified under standard atmospheric pressure. Helium is an inactive element of Z. Helium is mainly used as protective gas, working fluid of gas-cooled nuclear reactor and ultra-low temperature refrigerant.

On February 6, 2017, the team of Wang Huitian and Zhou Xiangfeng from Nankai University of China and their collaborators published a paper on the synthesis of sodium helium compound - Na2He under high pressure [1] [2] in Nature Chemistry, ending the history of no compound in helium, which marks that China has moved to the forefront in the field of rare gas chemistry.

Because helium is light and nonflammable, it can be used to fill airships, balloons, thermometers, electronic tubes, diving suits, etc. It can also be used as a protective gas for atomic reactors and accelerators, lasers, rockets, smelting and welding, as well as for filling light bulbs and neon tubes, and also for making foamed plastics.

Because the solubility of helium in blood is very low, it can be added to oxygen to prevent decompression sickness, as a breathing gas for divers, or to treat asthma and asphyxia.

The temperature of liquid helium (- 268.93 ℃) is close to zero (- 273 ℃), so it is used as a superfluid in the research of superconductivity to make superconducting materials. Liquid helium is also commonly used as coolant and refrigerant. In medicine, it is used for argon-helium knife to treat cancer. It can also be used as a component of artificial atmosphere and laser media.
